Turkish Defense Minister Akar: country will continue military operations in northern Syria and Iraq

Turkey will continue its anti-terrorist operations near its borders in Northern Syria and Iraq, the country’s National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said.

Earlier, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Ankara was ready for a new military operation in northern Syria, which could begin at any moment. Damascus has repeatedly called the presence of Turkish forces in the Syrian border territory, which carry out operations against Kurdish formations there, illegal and called on Ankara to withdraw troops.

“Anti-terrorist operations near Turkey’s borders will continue until the last fighter is eliminated. This applies to northern Iraq as well as Syria,” Anadolu Agency quoted Akar as saying.

According to him, the fight against terrorism continues at an increasing pace.
“Despite severe frosts and snow, strikes against terrorists do not stop. Of course, from time to time there are shellings or attacks, to which there is a dignified response. All necessary measures are taken,” assured the Turkish defense chief.
